Thoughts on the New Year

No matter which part of the World you call home, which time zone you reside in, or where you’ll be when the clock turns over to the New Year…2018 is nearly upon us. With each new year that comes and goes, I see many resolutions fall by the wayside, relationships start and end, plans get made and plans get changed, loss, gain, pain, joy, and a plethora of other things I could spend the entire night listing. All of that to ask this; as 2017 comes to a close, ARE YOU WHO YOU WANT TO BE? ARE YOU FULFILLING GOD’s CALL FOR YOUR LIFE? And if not…WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO ABOUT IT?

This is where some of you will tell me how you’re going to start eating healthy, join the gym (and actually go), reduce clutter, and the list goes on and on. And none of those things are bad…but none of them are going to change the world, or even seriously alter YOUR world. What I’m talking about, are what things that you will do to allow the John the Baptist prayer of you decreasing and Jesus increasing, to become a reality in your life.

I’m talking to those of you true worshippers…who instead of arising, have been doing your best impression of Jonah when he refused to go to Nineveh and ended up in the belly of a giant fish. This is for the ones that have been hanging out in mediocrity, instead of the greatness you’ve been called to. I’m talking to you, relationship-settlers, life-decision fence squatters, and implemation-procrastinators. WHAT THE HECK HAVE YOU BEEN DOING ALL YEAR?

It’s just a question, but here’s why I’m asking. Because a new year, symbolizes new beginnings. And some of you have been stuck in a rut for far too long. So whether your New Year’s Eve has already started, or you have one more sleep until you watch the ball drop at midnight; I will leave you with 5 real changes that you can make, to start to better your life in 2017:

1. You know you ain’t in love with him (or her, or them, or that) break up with him (or her, or them, or that)!!! Your heart is valuable, your time is valuable, YOU are valuable. Quit wasting your time on dead/relationships, meaningless activities, and dead-end jobs. If you’re not all in, ya shouldn’t be in at all.

2. “Look what you made me do”. End the cycle of blame. You’re grown, start acting like it. No one can make you feel inferior without your permission, and no one is responsible for your choices but yourself. You can’t be a victim and a victor at the same time. Take responsibility for your own words and actions. If you’re gonna stay it, stand behind it. Quit blaming yourself for the words and actions of others. And if you can’t say anything nice (or intelligent, or helpful) shut your trap. There is something to be said about being quick to listen and slow to speak; just saying…oh and so does the Bible.

3. What about us?

What about you? It’s not about you. It’s not about me either. It never has been. It’s about Jesus. Only Him. God wasn’t obligated to give you life. Quit acting like you’re entitled, He doesn’t owe you ANYTHING. Neither does anyone else. This applies to all of us. So…what are WE going to do to spread the gospel far and wide? That’s what you should be asking yourself.

4. I’m in love with shape of you…Seriously, if you’re still judging books by their covers, people by their appearances, and relationships by their social media posts…grow up and get a life. Beauty is sooo much deeper than the surface. Things are rarely what they seem. And people aren’t avatars, pictures, or emojis.

5. You look perfect tonight…

Whether you’re dressed to the hilt going to the hottest party, or chillin at home in your pj’s…you’re great, just the way you are. Quit being so hard on yourself. Your butt looks great. Your face is exactly the right shape. You aren’t too skinny, or too fat. Your hair is amazing. Your shape is amazing. Your not too short, too tall; too big or too small. You don’t need to try to be anyone else, look like anyone else, or be what anyone else thinks you should be. Just be you. Just be. Just bloom.

For me, 2017 has been one of the toughest years of my life (with getting very ill, losing my Mom, losing several other important folks in my life, and getting into a serious car accident -just to name a few), but it also contained some of the most amazing moments of my life, and I’ve learned a ton about myself, and to trust God all the more in the process. I’m excited for all God is bringing me to, and to me, in 2018. I want His perfect will, nothing less, and nothing else. I love y’all soooo much! And I’m praying that you’ll ask Him for the very same! That you really put some of these points into practice and start off 2018 seeking God will your whole hearts, loving yourselves the way you are, and trusting and obeying God to fulfill His perfect will in your lives!

Praying for you, as always!!! HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! ~Laura
